| First
meeting of GELIG
Following the successful conferences to
launch the Making a Connection teaching
resource pack on PSHE and Citizenship
where presentaions were made on Emotional
Literacy and its impact in these subject
areas a group of enthusiastic educators
based in Gloucestershire decided to set
up their own Emotional Literacy Interest
Group. The conferences were run by the
charity CYPF (Children and Young Peoples
Foundation) in London, Bristol and Leicestershire
earlier this year. They brought together
many people from FE and schools to learn
about the topic.
The first meeting of
GELIG was held at the University of Gloucestershire
on 19.11.01 and chaired by Gwen Chaney,
Field Chair for Community Studies and
NVQ Centre manager.
Attendees and expressions
of interest came from a variety of backgrounds
such as the Business School, School of
Education, Gloucester LEA reintegration
team, independent consultancies, careers
advisory service, educational advisors
from Warwickshire, early years specialists
and the head of the Community Nursing
programme. This indicated to all concerned
that the interest in the topic and its
application to a wide range of fields
was certainly present and confirmed the
decision to go ahead with a regular series
of meetings.
Following the format
established by SELIG and NELIG the aims
that this group developed together are
to:
- share experience,
knowledge and activities related to
Emotional Literacy (through regular
presentations to members)
- collaborate with
one another by forming pairs or teams
of subject/field experts with EL specialists
- jointly work on projects
to integrate EL into the other specialist
fields such as community nursing, social
work, business etc
- publish project work
- disseminate up to
date, accurate information on EL to
colleagues, press and public when offered
opportunity.
- network with other
groups with common interests.
