Emotional Literacy at Rugby High School:
the story so far...
September 2005: whole staff training for
teaching and non-teaching staff on emotional
literacy. Arranged by SENCO and Assistant
Headteacher. Staff introduced to the main
concepts of emotional literacy; input
from LABBS colleague (basic strategies
to use in school) and school EP (Solution
Focused Brief Therapy).
11 Nov 2005: first meeting of EL interest
group - 8 colleagues including 2 non-teaching
staff - to consider the kinds of EL work
already happening at RHS, areas for development.
What do students feel? Action: to use
form time programme to find out from students
'What does it feel like to come to RHS
each day?'
21-25 Nov: 'Cool to be Kind Week' - whole
school and staff involvement eg random
acts of kindness, positive affirmation
activities.
30 Nov 2005: EL group meeting - review
'Cool to be Kind Week'. Positive outcomes;
discuss how to extend this across the
year. Consider student reponses to 'What
does it feel like to come to RHS each
day?'.

staff and 4 members of EL interest group.

for sharing skills with all colleagues.
